1. Who We Are

PII Shield is a Chrome browser extension developed and maintained by an individual developer. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at: hello@monfire.co.uk

2. What Data We Process

PII Shield analyses text you type into supported AI chat websites in order to detect personally identifiable information (PII). This includes:

• Text entered into AI chat interfaces while using a supported AI tool
• Patterns that may indicate PII such as email addresses, phone numbers, or National Insurance numbers

This analysis happens entirely within your browser using JavaScript. The text is never transmitted anywhere.

3. Data We Do Not Collect

We do not collect, store, transmit, or share:

• Any text you type or paste into websites
• Any detected PII or scan results
• Your browsing history or visited URLs
• Personal information of any kind
• Analytics or usage statistics (unless you explicitly opt in, which is not currently implemented)

4. Permissions Used

PII Shield requests the following Chrome permissions, and only uses them for the stated purposes:

• storage: saves your settings (on/off, which features are enabled) locally in Chrome's sync storage. No PII is stored.
• sidePanel: displays the PII warnings panel on the right side of your browser.
• activeTab / scripting: injects the detection script into the current tab so it can monitor text input. Only runs on the supported AI sites listed in the extension.

The extension only activates on a specific list of supported AI chat websites. It does not run on any other websites.

5. Data Storage

The only data stored by this extension is your preferences (e.g. whether detection is enabled, whether highlights are shown). This is stored using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.sync API, which may sync across your Chrome devices if you are signed in to Chrome. It contains no PII.

6. Third Parties

PII Shield does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, tracking, or data collection services. No data is shared with third parties.

7. Children's Privacy

This extension is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from children.

8. Your Rights (UK GDPR)

Because we do not collect personal data, there is no data held about you to access, correct, or delete. If you have any concerns, please contact us and we will respond within 30 days.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy if the extension's functionality changes. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
